How Can severe Cough And Sore Throat Be Treated?
I have had a cough and sore throat for several weeks. This past week I developed fever x 4 days and nights. I was prescribed doxycycline 100 mg two bid. Have taken med for 6 days now. I no longer have fever but cough and sore throat are ever bit as severe as on Monday. What could be the cause? Btw I feel like my lungs are fine. The throat is the worst.

Hi,
It could be a viral infection and then doxycycline is of not much use. You can have a throat swab taken and start antibiotics and decongestants which will help along with saline gargles twice a day.
